Pete and Erik Nordstrom Remember John A. (Jack) McMillan, Former Co-President and Co-Chairman of Nordstrom

It is with heavy hearts that we remember Jack McMillan, our cousin and former Nordstrom co-president and co-chairman, who passed away on November 15 at age 91.

Jack was an integral part of our company for more than 47 years. Like many of us, he started his career in the stockroom and on the sales floor of our downtown Seattle store. Together with our dad Bruce and his cousins Jim and John Nordstrom, Jack was a core member of Nordstrom’s third generation leadership team. They were known as the “core four,” and together, they took the company public in 1971 and led our national expansion into California, the Midwest and the East Coast. Jack served as a co-chairman until 1995 and on the Board of Directors until 2004.

Those who had the opportunity to get to know Jack know what a talented and charismatic leader he was. He will long be remembered not only for his many contributions to Nordstrom and our culture, but for the mentorship he showed to so many over his decades with the company. It’s difficult to overstate how much his support and guidance meant to us as we grew up in this business. He will be very missed.
